About The Tangent Initiative

Open Water Swimming

Sometimes the best things begin with a tangent.

The Tangent Initiative started with a simple idea:

What if doing things differently isn't the problem?

For people with ADHD, there can be enormous pressure to fit into systems, routines and expectations that weren't necessarily designed for the way our brains work.

We want to explore a different approach.

One built around curiosity rather than judgement.

Understanding rather than fixing.

And finding what works rather than constantly focusing on what doesn't.

Meditating in Nature

What we Do

The Tangent Initiative is a Melbourne-based ADHD coaching and community initiative.

Our main coaching focus is athletes and active people with ADHD, but the bigger vision extends beyond sport.

We're building a space where people can better understand themselves, connect with others and develop practical ways of navigating sport, work and life with their brain rather than constantly fighting against it.

Through coaching, workshops, practical tools, conversations, movement and community, we want to make those ideas useful in the real world.

Meet the Founder - Gareth Sutton

I'm Gareth, founder of The Tangent Initiative.

I'm an educator, sports coach, ADHD coach, counselling student, runner and someone with lived experience of ADHD.

Sport and movement have always been a huge part of my life. So has knowing what I want to do and occasionally wondering why my brain seems to have developed an entirely different plan.

My professional background spans more than a decade in education, coaching and wellbeing. I'm also completing postgraduate study in guidance and counselling.

But The Tangent Initiative isn't about me having all the answers.

My role is to get curious alongside you.

To help you understand what's happening, recognise your strengths, discover what works for your brain and turn that understanding into something practical.
